Missing...

Android is quite new and playing around with it i found quite some missing features. So here is my rant-list for android 1.5 (cupcake)

Gmail

The only useable mail app on the android. And no other mail client supports imap-idle (push).

  • Create a new label on the phone. Yes i can choose from existing ones, but i can't create a new one.
  • Choose the from address. I have multiple aliases on the one gmailbox. When creating or replying i would like to choose which address i use.
  • Automaticly reply from the address i received the mail on. If i receive a mail on private@example.com and hit reply, gmail should use private@example.com as sender. It works in the webinterface (at least as long as private@example.com is a known alias to gmail)
  • Have a new mail overview. I filter mails by directly applying labels and remove them from the inbox. So it would be nice to have a default gmail view showing labels and the amount of unread mails. Not open gmail, press menu, show labels, and then seeing a list with all labels not just those with unread mail.
  • Clickable postal addresses and phone numbers. The webinterface detects (at least some) addresses and adds a show on map link. What should i do on my phone? Write down the address, open gmaps, enter it?
  • Edit Quotes. Yes bandwith is cheap and all that, but having this huge quoted block added to all replies sucks. I want to edit that one to only include relevant lines.

Notifications

Notifications should be a part of the core OS not an App.

  • Repeat missed Notifications on the Notification class. Missed calls are repeated for an hour every five minutes, missed messages for ten minutes and so on.
  • Allow Notification timeslots. Do notify me about emails at 1:00 am. But do notify me of calls.
  • Choose more of those funky LEDs. Light the trackball, blink blue, etc.
  • Allow Notfications for gmail based on labels. Server down mails may beep (even at 1:00 am). Other mails not.
  • Notify me wail on charger. During charge the LED stays solid (amber or green). Notfication have a higher priority than a charge indicator and should allow the LED to blink even during charge.

Maps

  • Add Bookmarks. I found a location on the map and want to remember it

Tasks/Todo

  • Application that interacts with the tasklist defined in the gmail webinterface
